Upstairs Bathroom Demolition With Dust Control and Floor Protection
In May 2026, Demohaulic completed a selective upstairs bathroom demolition in Farmington Hills, Michigan 48335 in preparation for remodeling. Because the bathroom was located on the second floor, protecting the finished areas of the home was a key part of the job. Before demolition began, we installed protective floor covering along the path into the home and set up a zipper wall at the bathroom entrance to help contain the work area. A HEPA air scrubber was also used during demolition to help reduce airborne dust.

Heavy Mud-Set Bathroom Floor Removal
One of the more labor-intensive parts of this project was the bathroom floor. The tile was not installed over a simple underlayment. Instead, the floor assembly consisted of about 1 inch of mud/concrete along with lath and felt paper underneath. That older-style floor system adds significant weight and takes more effort to break apart and remove than a standard tile floor. Since this was an upstairs bathroom, the debris had to be carefully carried out through the home rather than quickly wheeled out in bulk.
Dust Containment and Controlled Demolition
Occupied-home demolition requires more than just tearing materials out. On this project, we took extra steps to help protect the rest of the home during demolition, including:

Unexpected Condition Found Behind the Walls
Once the walls were opened and the insulation was exposed, we encountered an infestation of ants inside the wall cavity. This was a concealed condition that was not visible before demolition began. It is a good example of how bathroom demo can uncover hidden issues that need to be addressed before rebuild work starts.
Bathroom Left Ready for the Next Phase
After demolition was complete, the bathroom had been stripped back for the next stage of renovation. The tub, tub surround, toilet, soffit, insulation and heavy mud-set floor were removed, leaving the area opened up and prepped for the contractor's next steps. The goal was to complete a clean, controlled demolition while protecting the home and exposing the space for remodeling.
